The restorient studio is modelled on the studios in Japan and much of the work is carried out at low level benches on a Japanese tatami mat floor. The studio is equipped with a wide range of tools and materials sourced throughout Asia. Especially important are the Japanese drying boards (karibari) - paper covered lattices coated with a fermented persimmon juice and the stocks of the 10 years old aged paste (furunori). These are essential in the construction of traditional hanging scrolls and are just two examples of how important an emphasis the studio places on traditional techniques.
